Wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters - a safe journey guide

We want our customers to feel confident and safe during their journey, especially those with reduced mobility or disabilities. There are a few things to remember to ensure you have a smooth journey:

  • Don't rush - be ready on the platform and listen out for the tones signifying the doors are closing. Please don't try to get on or off the tram if you hear the door closing signals. Some trams also have flashing lights.
  • Let us know if you need more time to get on or off - Use the help point on the platform, we can let our drivers know where you're getting on and off and allow you more time to get situated.
  • Always hold on - always make sure you hold the handrails when getting on or off, or if moving through the tram. The tram may suddenly move, so please take care and hold on at all times.
  • Wheelchairs should park in the wheelchair spaces - place the back of the chair against the backplates and apply your brakes
  • Mobility scooters should avoid facing side-on where possible - use the wheelchair space if it's free or park in the direction of travel if possible.
  • Larger mobility scooters should park with the handrail between the chair and our driver - In the unlikely event the tram needs to come to a sudden emergency stop, having the handrail placed between your scooter and the driver will help to prevent your chair from tipping over. Always hold the handrail when the tram is moving.
