Why have I been issued a penalty fare notice?

You are required to purchase a ticket before boarding Nottingham Trams. You must buy your ticket or scan your travel card whilst on the platform. You must complete your purchase or scan your travel card before you board the tram.


Our staff are always out on the network inspecting tickets. If you are found to be travelling without a ticket or have made your purchase via our app whilst already on board our trams, you will be asked to alight at the next stop and issued a penalty fare notice.


All customers of Nottingham Express Transit must comply with the Conditions of Carriage and the local Byelaws. This includes ensuring you have a ticket or validated travel card that is valid for your entire journey.
